Cosmological Origin

In book: Chronicles

The spirit world acts as a separate plane of existence, parallel to the physical world we know of. Within this domain, order and chaos cycle in equilibrial tandem, sustaining the existence of the other. These interconnected forces are known as The Deity and Malum. Destined to eternal battle, neither can be defeated as the small amount of darkness inside The Deity would allow Malum to be reborn time and time again, and vice versa.

The harmonic existence of the two acted as a catalyst for cosmological power to transcend the spirit world and create a physical world in harmony with the elements- Arcadia. Order poured a huge magnitude of elemental essence into the world, while chaos terraformed it into the land, seas, and sky.

Through the will of the deity, elemental lifeforms were born, embodying what is perceived to be the most desirable virtues of the soul: bravery, serenity, freedom, loyalty, pride, firmness, cunning, righteousness, and wisdom. These beings became known as Magii, believed to be the Deity’s manifestation of the ideals that should govern all souls. But the reality is far more complex than the simplistic virtues assigned to each element. Magii are not mere embodiments of virtue, possessing their own desires, struggles, and imperfections. The Deity’s attempt to encapsulate virtue in tangible forms mirrors the misunderstanding of the complexities inherent in the balance between good and evil.

The prevailing understanding is that without the Deity there is no life..no good, and without Malum, no death..no evil. The inevitability of the end is not a fate to be lamented, but an opportunity for a new beginning. The cycle of creation and destruction, life and death, is the essence of the cosmic harmony that sustains both worlds.

However, the inhabitants of Arcadia perceived death and destruction through a lens of fear. Death, portrayed as the consequence of malevolence, was misunderstood as a malevolent force rather than an essential counterpart to life. The Deity is worshipped as the benevolent creator and life-giver, while Malum became the embodiment of everything undesirable. Malum, bitter at the portrayal that denied its vital role in maintaining cosmic balance, grew resentful. It saw mortal life as unworthy of the beautifully crafted world it had enabled. Fuelled by this resentment, Malum conceived the Igami, corrupted souls that would serve as instruments to disrupt the balance that bound the realms.

As discord spread, the Deity, sensing impending chaos, divided Arcadia into nine realms, bestowing immense power upon nine gods, and appointing them as guardians and rulers of the realms. Since this event, the presence of the Deity has grown weaker, and the scales of harmony are tipped. Corruption and destruction, like encroaching shadows, have begun to further seep into the Elemental World, threatening the sustenance of its very existence.

The balance must be restored.
